Zimbabwe

Mana Pools canoe safaris, Hwange's elephant country, Victoria Falls — Zimbabwe's classic circuit.

About Zimbabwe

A closer look at Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe produces some of the best guides in Africa — a rigorous licensing system and generations of walking-safari tradition. Mana Pools along the Zambezi is the country's signature: walking with elephants at eye level, canoeing downstream with hippos, sleeping out under fig trees.

Most travellers combine Zimbabwe with Victoria Falls and either Botswana (via Kasane) or Zambia. A full Zimbabwe-only trip runs 10–14 days.

What we build trips around

The headline safari highlights

01

Mana Pools

A UNESCO site on the Zambezi. Walking safaris are the best in Southern Africa — bull elephants, wild dogs, quiet floodplains.

02

Hwange National Park

The country's largest park, famous for enormous elephant herds that gather at pumped waterholes in the dry season.

03

Victoria Falls

Mosi-oa-Tunya — the smoke that thunders. The Zimbabwean side has more of the viewpoints; the Zambian side has the swim pool.

04

Matusadona & Kariba

A manmade lake and adjacent park. Houseboat safaris, tiger fishing, and a slower rhythm.

When to go

Best time to visit

Zimbabwe FAQ

Can't find what you're looking for? Drop us a line — a real safari expert will write back within 24 hours.

Ask a question
Is Zimbabwe safe for travellers?

Yes. Political noise rarely affects travel areas. Tourism infrastructure in Hwange, Mana and Vic Falls is well-maintained and lodges are secure.

Are walking safaris for everyone?

They require reasonable fitness and calm nerves around big animals. Guides are the most experienced in Africa. Most camps offer game drives as an alternative.

Can I pay in local currency?

USD is the de facto currency for tourism. Small denominations are useful for tips and roadside purchases.

Should I see Vic Falls from Zimbabwe or Zambia?

Zimbabwe has more of the viewpoints (about 75% of the falls face Zimbabwe). Zambia has Devil's Pool (Sep–Dec) and the Knife Edge Bridge. You can do both in a day — the bridge is walkable.
