Uganda

Mountain gorillas, the source of the Nile, and some of East Africa's wildest parks — Uganda in full.

About Uganda

A closer look at Uganda.

Uganda is the more adventurous cousin of Rwanda. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has roughly half the world's mountain gorillas. Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls are classic savannah parks with tree-climbing lions and Nile-fed game. Kibale has the largest habituated chimpanzee population on the continent.

A proper Uganda trip takes 10 days or more — distances are long and drive days real. We fly between the main parks wherever possible, and overland only where the landscape earns it.

What we build trips around

The headline safari highlights

01

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

A UNESCO forest on the Rwandan and Congolese border. Home to over 400 mountain gorillas.

02

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Savannah, crater lakes, and the famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector.

03

Kibale Forest

Chimpanzee tracking at its best. Permits are $250 — a fraction of gorilla rates.

04

Murchison Falls

The Nile squeezes through a 7m gap in a rock wall. Boat cruises, hippos, shoebill storks.

Questions we get

Uganda FAQ

Can't find what you're looking for? Drop us a line — a real safari expert will write back within 24 hours.

Ask a question
Is Uganda safe for tourists?

Yes, the main tourism circuit — Kampala, Bwindi, QENP, Kibale, Murchison — is well-patrolled and frequently travelled. We avoid the northeastern border areas.

How long should I spend in Uganda?

Minimum 7 days for gorillas plus one other park. 10–14 days is ideal — enough for Bwindi, Kibale and either QENP or Murchison.

Can I do a gorilla double-trek in Uganda?

Yes — and we often recommend it given the lower permit cost. Two treks let you see different family dynamics.

What vehicle should I expect?

A private pop-top 4x4 Land Cruiser with a dedicated driver-guide, seating 3–6 guests with full window access each.
