Etosha National Park Wildlife Safari

Eight days circling Etosha’s salt pan. That’s the core of this trip. The pan itself is a vast, white expanse that shimmers in the heat, and the game drives follow the network of waterholes that fringe its edge. We spend our days tracking elephant herds, giraffe, and the occasional black rhino as they move between these life-giving spots. Lions sprawl in the shade. Springbok bounce across the gravel plains. The nights are where this place really shows off. Several of the lodges we use have floodlit waterholes. You sit with a drink as the sun drops, and then the show begins. A lone hyena slinks in. A herd of zebra approaches, cautious. An elephant bull might stand for an hour, barely moving, just drinking. You watch it all from a deck chair. No engine. No guide. Just the dark and the animals. We keep the pace easy. Early morning drives, a break during the heat of the day, then an afternoon drive that stretches into dusk. The distances between the camps are manageable — we’re not crossing the country, we’re circling the pan. That focus lets us read the landscape better. You start to notice the subtle shifts: the way the grass changes color, the tracks on the road, the birds that signal water ahead. Eight days. One pan. A lot of quiet, patient watching.
